ARTE’s documentary “Aux armes, citoyennes!” radically reexamines the story of the French Revolution, traditionally dominated by male figures like Danton or Robespierre.
The film highlights thousands of women — from Théroigne de Méricourt to Olympe de Gouges — who were major actors in the uprisings, including the Women’s March on Versailles.
It explores their political demands and, crucially, the mechanisms of erasure that removed them from History for two centuries — confronting the Matilda Effect in the political realm.
